The CAD/CAM office is the driving force behind our Quality System which produces fully engineered 3D models from which 2D drawings, NC programs and process engineering sheets are derived for every part produced.
If a change is requested, the 3D model is re-engineered and a new set of information generated from the top down.
Using this method, only the latest set of data exists for a component - NC programs for example are sent to machines on a 'one-shot' basis and never stored.
Shop floor staff are all skilled and reponsible for machine set-up, first-off inspection and in-process inspection. Operations are tracked on process engineering sheets so that progress, job times and any problems are fed back to the foreman for corrective action.
In practice we have few quality problems, our approach to design, the human factor and the quality of the equipment we use eliminates most problems at source. The Quality System is a structure for operation of the business, not an end in itself.
