Virtually all components are modelled in INVENTOR or SOLIDWORKS whether we have had significant design input or not. We find this the best way to verify the integrity of customer drawings before moving into production.
The output from INVENTOR or Solidworks is a component flat pattern development drawing which is programmmed using the VECTOR CAD/CAM system for our Amada CNC turret punches or our Amada CNC laser depending material type, material thinkness and intricacy of the shape. Multiple components are nested for maximum sheet utilisation or nested as 'kits of parts' whichever is appropriate.
The number of new programs and the number of existing programs subject to change requires very careful NC program issue control which is managed using an NC program Server from which programs are sent to machines electronically on a 'one-shot' basis and then deleted.
Control of data in this way is key to our quality management system and ensures that expensive mistakes are avoided and delays are not passed on to customers in the form of errors and missed delivery dates.
